So what is Messy Church?

A way of being church for all-ages to join in experiencing fun and faith formative activities. Found throughout the globe. Based on the values of all-ages together, celebration, creativity, hospitality, and centering ourselves in Christ. you can learn more about the global Messy Church movement at https://messychurchusa.org/

IS MESSY CHURCH ACTUALLY CHURCH?

Messy Church is church, but not like you remember it. Messy Church does not require anyone to dress up in fancy clothes. It doesn't require anyone to just sit still and quiet while other people do all the talking. It doesn't mean splitting up into age groups and not being with your family. That is not what church was ever required to be. The church is meant to be a community of people that gather around the Good News of Jesus. And that is what Messy Church is.
​But when Messy Church gathers around Jesus we also gather around tables to eat, and we gather to celebrate what God has done, and we gather to be creative as we explore these Gospel stories in new ways that engage all of our senses. We gather in a way that makes everyone feel welcome, just as they are. And we think that kind of gathering together is absolutely what it means to be THE CHURCH.

Who can come to messy church?

Messy Church is open to every age and every ability and we all do Messy Church together. ​

do i have to get MEssy (or dirty or wet)?

Only if you want to. At Messy Church we have a variety of interactive ways to explore the main idea or a story for the day. Some of these activities could get your hands dirty, or you might get wet, but everyone can choose which activities they are comfortable with, and there will be plenty to do even if you want to stay clean. No one has to participate in any activity they don't want to.

Messy Church isn't just about "messy" activities, it's also about knowing that we can bring the messiness of our lives to God and thus to church. No one has to be perfect to come to church, we can come just as we are.
