Advent, the weeks containing the four Sundays before Christmas Day begins on December 1 this year. In preparation for God's love manifest in the arrival of Jesus, there will be much to celebrate. This can be done through personal time using devotions and prayer. It can also happen through community as we gather for various events during the season. Use the link to learn more about various activities during Advent here at 1stChurchJC.
Getting Ready for Clare's Closet:
Novice Gross has sent these pictures to share of volunteers and winter wear for Clare's Closet. Many thanks to all who have provided new or gently used winter wear for this outreach mission program for our community. Winter wear is collected for all ages and distributed appropriately. Also thanks to all the volunteers who have sorted, arranged and prepared for sharing these items. As noted below, the first distribution day will be October 26 and continue each Saturday that we have a Food Pantry through March.
We now have a training video created at the last class on Safe Sanctuaries in September. The link to the YouTube video is available at this page.
Please call the church office and leave a message or see the bulletin weekly for more information. We will begin using live flowers again when someone would like to place them in honor or in loving memory of someone . There will only be one set per week and it is done on a sign-up, first come-first taken basis. Pat Faber will be managing the schedule and return your call.
If you have an interest in learning more about 1stChurch membership, or The United Methodist Church in general, please consider attending our Explore 1stChurchJC classes. The series in October was a great success. Thanks for all who participated in leading and attending. Watch for more information about future explore 1stChurch sessions.

Holston Conference has issued a call for Cleaning Kits, Hygiene Kits
and monetary donations to assist all those affected by recent hurricanes.
The highlighted words above have instructions about the kits.
If your church plans to assemble kits, they may be delivered to the Three Rivers District Ministry Center. It is always a good idea to call ahead of time to make certain someone is in the office to accept your delivery.
We are looking for additional volunteers to help with monitoring on Sunday and Wednesday evenings!
