Our church, like many, has faced challenges in the past few years. We have had an older congregation. We have an older building. But we have new life inside and outside these walls. Efforts to serve the community have brought us to a new place. God is doing a new thing at 1stChurch. We have reached out to teenagers and children in Johnson City from outside our traditional church membership. We have connected with them. They have found a loving church home where they are served as well as where they learn to serve.
This page highlights photos with captions of the ways we are meeting these young people.
Some even have brought their families as well as some friends. We have vans to bring them and take them home. Some come to us on their own. They are nurtured by leaders and mentors, helped with homework, provided at least one weekly meal and more. Some glimpses of our new life are below. Our Facebook page has pictures from over the years as well as our photo album section. We just wanted to share a sampling of these photos on this page.
We have also featured some of this information in our "Loaves and Fishes, Leaps and Bounds" article which is on the website and was also published in the Holston Conference Newsletter.
In addition to these outreach efforts, we also are very proud of the Early Learning Center and the vital role it plays in the community as a leading child care and education program. We have found God working all around us in and through the young, the old, all economic groups and all colors of skin. Join us!
