Senior High Youth Director
First United Methodist Church of Johnson City, TN is seeking a part-time staff member for senior high youth ministries, offering competitive salary. Johnson City is a vibrant university town in the beautiful hills of northeast Tennessee. First UMC is a historical downtown church with a strong and diverse youth ministry, significant congregational support, and great potential for growth. The successful candidate will take initiative, build teams, be flexible and adaptable, disciple, and organize well.
The Director of Senior High Youth Ministries leads youth (grades 9-12) in holistic ministry to meet spiritual, physical, emotional, and social needs of a diverse group of young people to become disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Essential Job Functions: - Function in a cooperative basis with other staff members and support the various aspects of First United Methodist Church programs. - Oversee a comprehensive youth ministry program including: regularly scheduled youth gatherings, special events, retreats, and trips. - Recruit, train, and equip volunteers for ministry with youth. - Offer support, guidance, counselling, and encouragement to youth members, inactive youth, unchurched youth, community youth, and their families.
Minimum Qualifications: - Professing and practicing Christian and familiarity with the teachings of The United Methodist Church - Bachelor’s degree in education, ministry, counselling, social work, or related field (preferred). - Training and experience in working with youth, especially with marginalized communities. - Satisfactory background check and completion of Safe Sanctuaries Training - Minimum age of 23 years to comply with First UMC policies.
